Tom took the day off yesterday, and we had so much fun spending the day together! We dropped the kids off at my parents' house, and headed to the place where he took me for our first Valentine's Day together in 2003. This was also the place he proprosed to me, over three years ago! We haven't been there since that day. "Our cliff" has changed a little. There is no longer a lone bench on top (where I was sitting when he proprosed), but it still has the same stunning view, with the ocean all around. This is where we ate our picnic lunch. Just like the last two times we had been here, Tom made little heart shaped sandwiches. It was a beautiful day on the cliff--so clear and delightfully warm! We didn't even have to wear our jackets. After lunch, we hiked down to "our" rocky beach, and set up the camera to take our picture on the same log that we have gotten a picture on the last two times we were here together. After a fun time walking and sitting on the beach, we went back to my family's house, where they had prepared a romantic dinner for two out in their arbor--a place we frequently ate in before we were married. It was far better than going to a restaurant, and we didn't even have to fight the crowds and wait in those outrageously long lines! We thoroughly enjoyed our candelit dinner for two! It was complete with three waiters--my little brothers Paul, Philip, and Timmy (ages 11,9, and 7). :) We had such a wonderful day--there is just nothing like spending time as just the two of us!
This last weekend we enjoyed a stay-at-home Saturday. That is something that we haven't had for a long time! We took advantage of the free day by cleaning up the backyard. It was in dire need, after being neglected due to our busy lives. There were so many leaves on the ground that it made the grass look browner than it already is! ;) Michael, Tom, and I kept busy raking, mowing, sweeping, trimming plants, etc. It was actually quite fun, because it was a beautiful day, and we enjoy working in the yard together. I have a lot of dreams for planting flowers once spring comes (soon!). This winter has been unusually cold (with the snowing and all), so some of our plants didn't survive too well. We sure were tired after our day, but it was worth it!
On Sunday we went over to Tom's family's house for an early celebration of my birthday. Though my birthday is still several weeks away, our weekends are so booked that this was the only day that would work for us. We had a yummy lunch and a great time with them. Tom's mom made a delicious Key Lime Cheesecake for my birthday that was hard to stop eating. They showed us an adorable wagon that they had bought that has two little seats facing each other. It has a cup holder, canopy, seatbelts, and a little door to get in and out! Talk about riding in style! I put some pictures in the winter photo gallery.
Last Tuesday we had Tom's parents over for an early Valentine's party. For dinner we had little heart-shaped meatloaves stuffed with a cheese filling. I used a recipe of my mom's that I hadn't used since I was just a young girl--that brought back some fun memories. :) Tom's mom brought some delcious homemade bread over, and a yummy dessert of a heart-shaped ginger cake. Grandpa and Grammy had brought over Valentine's cards for us--including one for each of the kids. They sure felt important opening them! :) We concluded the evening by playing a cello/piano duet for them (we've been enjoying playing together in our "spare time"). It was a fun evening!
"Little Bean" is 15 weeks old today, and I am starting to "pop" even more. Now that Bean is a little more "visible", he/she is becoming more and more real to me. I can hardly wait to start feeling the little kicks!
One of Michael's favorite things to do is to sit and put together his wooden puzzle. It is amazing to me how long it will keep him occupied! He puts the pieces in, then takes them all out, then puts them back, etc! I think we need to get more puzzles! It gives Mommy some extra "free" time!
Bethany has become a much more active baby recently, thereby requiring much more vigilant supervision! She loves to tear books off the shelf and crawl under the desk where she proceeds to get wedged into tight spots and repeatedly bangs her head! I don't know what the fascination is about being under there, but I hope she loses her interest fast! She also loves to look out the low windows in the living room, and bang on them with her hands. It is all the better when her beloved brother will do it with her!
It is definitely a wonderful occasion when Daddy comes home from work. When I know that Tom is in the driveway, I often excitedly announce to Michael, "Daddy's home"! He usually proceeds to rush to the window, jerk up the blinds, and make some sort of squealing or happy noise. He then dashes away really fast with a huge smile on his face. When I greet Tom with a hug, Michael likes to run over and hug both of us together, so it is a big triple hug. It probably won't be long, and Bethany will be joining in celebrating the happy occasion of Daddy coming home!
When Tom is relaxing after work, he will sometimes lie on the living room floor. Michael loves to run over to him, sit on him, and "Ride 'em, cowboy"! He bounces up and down like he was riding a horse--not always the most wonderful feeling for this "horsey"! :) Bethany likes it when Tom gets on the floor, too--especially because she loves to pull Daddy's hair, and he doesn't mind. He loves playing with his little ones!
I will try to put some recent pictures in the Winter photo gallery!
Since getting a request for a pregnancy update, I decided that I'd write a random entry. Normally I only write when something extra special or unusual happens, or when one of the little ones does something new. I guess this post will change that. :)
Tomorrow (Thursday) I am going to be 14 weeks along in the pregnancy. As far as we know right now, our "little bean" (as we affectionately call the baby) is doing fine. It is wonderful to finally be in the second trimester. It is my favorite part of pregnancy, because I'm generally not plagued with as much morning sickness, and I'm not big enough to be extremely uncomfortable! I have recently started to wear a few maternity clothes, but I'm mainly trying to stick with my normal loose-waisted clothes right now. If everything goes well, I will have time enough to get tired of wearing my maternity clothes, so I'm trying to hold off as much as possible! :)
Michael and Bethany are both growing up so fast! There are so many ways in which they are like twins. They love to be in each other's company, laugh at each other's antics, and play with the same type of toy. They wear the same size of diaper now, and enjoy some similar types of food. Michael is a reluctant eater, and very picky, whereas Bethy will eat just about anything given to her. I wonder if they are going to learn to like the same type of adult foods around the same time! In the mean time, I think we are going to need to start buying Cheerios in bulk. :)
After practically promising myself that I was not going to attempt to sew curtains for all the windows in this house, a dear friend of mine (and an excellent seamstress!) volunteered to come over and help me with the project. How could I refuse a sweet offer like that? :) We will probably start the project one day next week, and might even go shopping for some fabric this weekend. It will be so nice to have some curtains on the windows! Plain white blinds don't do a lot for a room, though they do provide privacy. I am really excited, and am now trying to hurry and decide what I want for each room! :)
I'd better close so I can get some projects done while Bethy is happy and my energetic little boy is taking a nap! :) Maybe, just maybe I can squeeze in a nap sometime this afternoon, too!
